Wet
In wet braking, the Michelin Primacy 5 stopped in 27.63 m, which was 3.70 m shorter than the CrossClimate 3 at 31.33 m. Based on your fixed reference, the CrossClimate 3 delivered 12% lower wet-braking performance. In wet handling, the Primacy 5 completed the lap in 95 seconds, finishing 4.69 seconds faster than the CrossClimate 3 at 99.69 seconds, giving the CrossClimate 3 a 5% performance deficit.
Straight aquaplaning was extremely close. The Primacy 5 maintained grip up to 78.18 km/h, only 0.76 km/h faster than the CrossClimate 3 at 77.42 km/h, a difference of just 1%. Overall, the Primacy 5 was clearly stronger in wet braking and handling, while their straight-aquaplaning performance was virtually identical.

Dry
In dry braking, the Michelin Primacy 5 stopped in 35.31 m, which was 2.84 m shorter than the CrossClimate 3 at 38.15 m. Based on your fixed reference, the CrossClimate 3 delivered 7% lower dry-braking performance.
Dry handling was much closer. The Primacy 5 completed the lap in 76.72 seconds, just 0.96 seconds faster than the CrossClimate 3 at 77.68 seconds, representing only a 1% difference. Overall, the Primacy 5 had a clear braking advantage, but both tires were virtually equal around the dry handling track.

In snow braking, the Michelin CrossClimate 3 stopped in 16.50 m, an enormous 14.04 m shorter than the Primacy 5 at 30.54 m, giving it an 85% performance advantage. In snow traction, the CrossClimate 3 accelerated in 5.08 seconds, a massive 5.76 seconds faster than the Primacy 5 at 10.84 seconds, representing a 113% advantage.
The CrossClimate 3 also completed the snow-handling lap in 110.17 seconds, finishing 29.46 seconds faster than the Primacy 5 at 139.63 seconds—a 27% advantage. Overall, this is where the 3PMSF-certified CrossClimate 3 completely transforms the comparison, delivering vastly superior snow safety and control.

Rolling Resistance

From my perspective as a tire expert, this comparison perfectly shows the compromise between dedicated summer performance and year-round versatility. The Primacy 5 is clearly stronger in wet and dry braking, while also offering lower rolling resistance and a slightly lower price. It is the better choice for warm climates or drivers who use dedicated winter tires.
The CrossClimate 3 sacrifices some braking performance and energy efficiency, but remains remarkably close in dry handling and aquaplaning. In return, it delivers dramatically better snow performance for only 5% more money. If you regularly face winter conditions, that small premium buys a huge increase in year-round capability.
