Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive Review: The Ultimate All-Weather Tire

Pirelli, the world-renowned tire manufacturer, has recently launched its latest product, the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive tire. This tire promises to provide drivers with exceptional performance in all weather conditions. The Scorpion WeatherActive is a product of years of research and development by Pirelli and is aimed at providing drivers with a tire that they can rely on in any weather condition.

One of the key features of the Scorpion WeatherActive is its all-weather compound. This compound provides excellent grip and handling in both wet and dry conditions. The tire has a directional tread design that effectively evacuates water from the contact patch, reducing the risk of aquaplaning and improving traction in wet conditions. The tire’s sipes also provide additional biting edges for improved snow traction.

The Scorpion WeatherActive also boasts a unique design that includes an optimized groove geometry that enhances the tire’s stability and handling. The tire’s shoulder blocks are designed to provide additional grip and stability, especially during high-speed cornering. The tire’s asymmetrical pattern provides a balance between wet and dry performance, providing the driver with confidence on the road.

Another great feature of the Scorpion WeatherActive is its versatility. It is available in a wide range of sizes, making it suitable for a wide range of vehicles, from SUVs to light trucks. This tire also has a load index rating of up to 121, meaning it can handle heavy loads with ease. Pirelli has also taken into consideration the environmental impact of its products. The Scorpion WeatherActive tire is produced using environmentally-friendly materials, and its tread design minimizes rolling resistance, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Wet Handling

Scorpion WeatherActive:

Wet traction from the Pirelli felt very strong, with objective results that would most likely be similar to the better-performing tires in the category. Around the track, the nicely weighted steering once again gave our drivers the reassuring feedback needed to dive into corners with precision and maximize the tire’s grip throughout the turn. From the first lap, it was clear the Scorpion WeatherActive’s design emphasized good wet weather performance

Dry Handling

Scorpion WeatherActive:

The Scorpion WeatherActive continued to impress, with its refined steering feedback now amplified with more traction to work with. As we like to remind ourselves, dry laps in our Explorer ST test vehicles are not a priority for the vehicle, nor the tires, but frankly, the Pirelli’s natural and sophisticated handling at the limit could make it easy to forget that fact.

Noise/Comfort/Ride Quality

The Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive tires showed good driving characteristics during testing on public roads, balancing well between its weather-focused tread pattern and limiting noise. The ride was firm but composed, with good steering response and mid-corner feedback, offering a positive sense of control.

Scorpion WeatherActive:

Limiting tread pattern noise from the more aggressive, v-shaped design is a tricky task, but Pirelli seemed to have mitigated any intrusive tones well. There was some pattern growl at lower speeds on smooth pavement, but at moderate and higher speeds, the noises mostly blended into consistent tones. Overall, our team agreed the Scorpion WeatherActive balanced its weather-focused pattern and noise attributes well. The ride was firm at times but nicely composed, which should complement the modern CUV and SUV well. Small impacts and undulations along our route were readily apparent but never intrusive. Luckily, larger road imperfections were concise and refined, which we’ve come to expect from tauter-riding flagship products from major manufacturers

All season 3 peak mountain

3 peak mountain logo

All season tires have always been the go to tires for the American market and this segment has been well established across the years. There are 2 types of all season tires, one with 3 peak mountain & one with only M+S. We have covered these 2 types of tire head to head with Michelin’s Defender T+H (M+S) vs Cross Climate 2 (3 peak mountain) and the M+S all season tires usually are worst in winter performances but excel much better in mileage.

Scorpion WeatherActive has the 3 peak mountain certified logo which qualifies it legally as a winter tire. If you are in an area which snows quite heavily, 3 peak mountain all season tires would be definitely a good choice.

UTQG rating

We have previously shown that UTQG tread wear rating can be a good indication of your expected mileage. Below are the UTQG values of both of the tirelines.

The mileage warranty for Scorpion WeatherActive is at 60,000 miles which is considered one of the highest warranty value for this segment. With a UTQG tread wear value of 700, rest assured mileage is definitely something Pirelli had in mind when creating Scorpion WeatherActive.

Summary

In conclusion, the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive tire is the ultimate all-weather tire, providing drivers with exceptional performance in all weather conditions. Its all-weather compound, unique design, versatility, and eco-friendliness make it the perfect choice for drivers who want a tire they can rely on no matter what the weather.
