Continental comfort 6 [CC6]: Press test results.

Due to the strong marketing push from Continental, CC6 has developed a clear reputation in the market as the best noise & comfort tire. Question: Is it really so? If it is true, how about is other performances ? Luckily for us, CC6 was chosen as one of the tires tested in the Autohome China test. Let’s have deep dive into its performances.

1. Comfort

With such high stakes on the line, is the CC6 really deserved the comfort tag line? Based on the comfort test, CC6 was given a 9/10 ranking which is the highest among all the other 6 tested tires. Its nearest competitor in this category is the Michelin XM2 which got a comfort raking of 8/10. Well done CC6 🙂

2. Wet braking.

Moving on the bread and butter categories, wet braking has always been the top performances which clearly differentiates the technological level of the tire manufactures. In the press test published by Autohome, CC6 rank the last in wet braking. The braking distance from 80-5km/h took 35.86m which is about 7.1m longer than the best place Nokian Line tire. The Michelin XM2 did not fair as well, placing 4th in its usually dominant category.

3. Wet handling

With such a bad wet braking results, I would expect something similar as well in wet handling as you would need good grip & braking forces to do maintain a good performance. As expected from the results, CC6 placed last with a 2.7 seconds deficit in lap times against the best wet braking tire in this test the Nokian Line.

Results: 7th ranked (38.32 seconds)

4. Aquaplaning

Aquaplaning was also weak for CC6 as it finished last, cloaking a tire slipping speed of 70 Km/h. Michelin XM2 surprise us all with a top place finish with a slipping speed of 85 Km/h.

5. Dry braking

Having such a dismal performance in wet, can the CC6 show some sliver lining in the dry performances? 🙁 It was another disappointed 6th place finish during the 80-5 Km/h deacceleration test. However it is worth noting the competition is really close as the top & bottom place finisher are separated by less than 1m braking distance.

Results: 6th ranked (Braking distance 25.44m)

6. Rolling resistance

CC6 has quite a respectable rolling resistance results, coming in 3rd slightly ahead of Michelin XM2 in 4th.

Results: 3rd ranked (Rolling resistance force 8.82N/kN)

7. Cost (Malaysia Context)

CC6 is the 2nd highest priced tire among the top 4 premium manufacturer. For a 205/55R16 it cost about 7% cheaper than XM2+ but 14% much higher than TripleMax2. For more info about the latest tire prices, please refer to the tire price section.

Summary

Overall CC6 only excels in one performance category: Comfort. The rest of the performances are greatly behind the competition. However if comfort is your main criteria, it might suit you really well.
