Pirelli Cinturato P1 review: Pirelli being the next biggest premium brand outside the top 4 tire manufacture list, we thought that we have a look at its comfort segment tire “Pirelli Cinturato P1” and see how well it performs in a magazine test. As all formula one enthusiast knows that Pirelli currently sponsors the formula 1, however as they are only the sole tire provider in the competition there is no means to know how good are they? In the Cinturato P1 catalogue, the product emphasize on safety, comfort & efficiency. With this in mind, let’s take a deep dive into Autohome‘s press test results.

1. Comfort

As the tire is a comfort line tire, lets first have a look at its comfort performance. Based on the test report, Cinturato P1 was given a 6/10 ranking which is the lowest score among all the other 6 tested tires. Continental’s CC6 top the charts with a 9/10 subjective rating

2. Wet braking.

As comfort results was disappointing, can Cinturato P1 bring in some positive light in the safety aspect of wet braking? Yes thy can , the tire finished 2nd place with a 29.69m braking distance from 80 km/h. They missed out the top spot by around 1m to Nokian Line.

3. Wet handling

With a good result in wet braking, I would expect Cinturato P1 to be also good in wet handling. As expected, Cinturato P1 placed 2nd again, just loosing the top spot to Nokian line by 0.84 seconds.

Results: 2nd ranked (36.48s lap time)

4. Aquaplaning

Cinturato P1 placed 4th in the standings for aquaplaning. At a water depth of 7mm, it manages to have a tire slip @ 80 km/h which is quite a reasonable speed.

5. Dry braking

Most of the braking of the tire life comes on a dry road. As the friction of coefficient in the dry conditions are the highest, vehicles tends to stop much quicker compare to the wet situation. In the dry braking test, Cinturato P1 managed to secure a 3rd place finish with a braking distance of 24.27m. It missed the top spot by only 0.07m 🙂

6. Rolling resistance

In regards to its efficiency pledge, Cinturato P1 fair quite poorly finishing 5th in the chart behind the top premium brands of Michelin, Bridgestone & Continental.

Results: 5th ranked (Rolling resistance force 9.18 N/kN)

7. Cost (Malaysia Context)

A 175/65R14 Cinturato P1 cost RM176 which makes its the most expensive tire in the line up. Its is even more expensive than Michelin! For more info about the latest tire prices, please refer to the tire price section.

Summary

The Cinturato P1 shows extremely well balanced performances in both wet & dry surfaces while having a moderate rolling resistance. Apart from comfort, this tires fairs well in all the other categories. It is however quite expensive with a price range roughly similar as Michelin.
