Results: Yokohama Geolandar AT4 vs BFGoodrich All-Terrain TA KO3
Results below were taken from the Tire Rack’s “Taking Off-Road Tires On-Road- 2024” test. A total of 12 tires were tested this time around in Tire Rack’s own proving ground. The graph below shows the comparison between Yokohama Geolandar AT4 vs BFGoodrich All-Terrain TA KO3 based on the relevant performance category. The Yokohama Geolandar AT4 was set as a reference hence at the 100% mark. Note that for subjective evaluation, we equate 1 point as 5%. Hence for example if tire A is graded 7 while tire B is graded 6, A is better than B by 5%.
As both tires are have the elusive 3 peak mountain logo, Tire Rack has included snow & ice in its testing portfolio. Wet
In wet braking from 60 to 0 mph, the Yokohama Geolandar AT4 stops in 177 feet, 7 feet shorter than the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3, which needs 184 feet. That gives the Yokohama a 4% advantage. However, in subjective wet handling, the KO3 scores noticeably higher with 5.31 out of 10 compared to the Geolandar’s 4.31 — a full 5% better rating. When it comes to lap time, the Geolandar AT4 finishes slightly faster at 40.45 seconds versus 40.65 seconds for the KO3, just a 0.2 second or close to 0% improvement.
Overall, the Yokohama Geolandar AT4 has the edge in wet braking and slightly in lap time, but the KO3 feels more composed in wet handling.

Dry
In dry braking from 60 to 0 mph, both the Yokohama Geolandar AT4 and the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 stop in exactly 141 feet, showing no difference between the two. Performance is evenly matched in this test.

Noise/Comfort/Ride Quality
In terms of noise, comfort, and ride quality, the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 scores 6.42 out of 10, slightly ahead of the Yokohama Geolandar AT4 at 6.08. That’s a 0.34-point difference, translating to a 2% advantage in overall ride refinement for the KO3.

Snow
In snow braking from 25 to 0 mph, the Yokohama Geolandar AT4 stops in 71.8 feet, 0.5 feet shorter than the KO3’s 72.3 feet — a 1% advantage. For snow acceleration from 0 to 12 mph, the Geolandar also comes out ahead at 47.8 feet, 1.4 feet shorter than the KO3’s 46.4 feet, giving it a 3% edge.
However, in subjective snow handling, the KO3 scores higher at 5.00 out of 10 compared to the Geolandar’s 4.33, a 3% better rating. On the snow handling course, the Geolandar completes the lap in 27.16 seconds, over a full second quicker than the KO3’s 28.25 seconds, a 4% advantage.

Ice
In ice braking from 12 to 0 mph, the Yokohama Geolandar AT4 stops in 48.5 feet, 4.8 feet shorter than the BFGoodrich KO3’s 53.3 feet — a clear 9% advantage. For ice acceleration over a rolling 60 feet, the Geolandar also comes out ahead at 6.04 seconds versus 6.23 seconds for the KO3, a 3% improvement.

For size 265/70R17, the Yokohama Geolandar AT4 is priced at $266, while the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 costs $295 — making the KO3 11% more expensive.

Summary
From my perspective as a tire expert, the Yokohama Geolandar AT4 impresses with stronger performance in wet braking, snow traction, and especially on ice—making it a great choice for those who value safety across all seasons. The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3, on the other hand, offers superior ride comfort and more confident subjective handling, particularly in wet and snowy conditions. If you prioritize grip and control in harsh surfaces, the Geolandar stands out. But if refinement and feel matter more to you, the KO3 still holds its ground.
