Results below were taken from the Tyre Review’s “The 7 BEST All Weather Tires Tested” Test. A total of 7 tires were tested this time around with an intriguing studless winter refence to gauge the all season performances. The graph below shows the comparison between Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive vs Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 based on the relevant performance category. The Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive was set as a reference hence at the 100% mark.

As both tires are categorized as all weather tires with a 3 peak mountain logo on it, an extensive snow & ice testing was conducted. Note that for subjective comfort evaluation, we equate 1 point as 5%. The tire size of interest is a 225/65R17 which is a common tire size for Honda CRV and Mazda CX-5. Wet

In wet braking, the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 stops 0.98 meters shorter than the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive, a 3% improvement. On the wet handling lap, the Goodyear is also quicker by 0.7 seconds, which translates to a 1% advantage. Subjectively, the Goodyear scores half a point higher than the Pirelli in wet handling, or 2.5% better. However, in straight-line aquaplaning, the Pirelli edges ahead by 0.6 km/h, giving it a 1% lead over the Goodyear.

  • +3% in wet braking

  • -1% in straight aquaplaning

Snow

In snow braking, the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 stops 0.1 meters shorter than the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive, a small 1% difference. For snow traction, the Pirelli is quicker by 0.1 seconds, giving it a 3% advantage. In snow handling, the Pirelli also completes the lap 0.81 seconds faster than the Goodyear, a 1% edge. Both tires are rated equally in subjective snow handling, with 9 points each.

Dry

In dry braking, the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 stops 1.36 meters shorter than the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive, a 3% advantage. On the dry handling lap, the Goodyear is also faster by 0.17 seconds, giving it a slight 1% edge. Subjectively, the Goodyear scores 0.25 points higher than the Pirelli, a 1% difference.

Noise & Comfort

Both tires are rated equally for subjective comfort, with 9.5 points each. However, the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive scores 1 point higher in subjective noise, a 5% advantage over the Goodyear. In measured exterior noise levels, the Pirelli is also quieter by 2.6 dB, which is a 4% reduction compared to the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2.

Rolling Resistance

Conclusion

As a tire expert, I’d say both of these 2024 all-weather tires bring strong performance to the table. The Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 impresses with better wet and dry braking, with more precise handling. On the other hand, the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive stands out with superior ice performance, lower rolling resistance, and quieter road noise. Choosing between them comes down to your priorities—wet grip and handling precision with the Goodyear, or winter traction and comfort with the Pirelli.
