Results below were taken from 2023 Sport Auto UHP Tire Test with a total of 11 tires tested, The graph below shows the comparison between Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S vs Falken Azenis FK520 based on the relevant performance category. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S was set as a reference hence at the 100% mark.

Note that for both wet & dry handling evaluation, the average lap speed was used instead of the standard lap time & subjective rating. In wet braking tests from 80 to 0 km/h, both the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S and the Falken Azenis FK520 stopped in 24.5 meters, showcasing equal performance. During wet handling, the Michelin averaged 84.6 km/h, slightly faster than the Falken’s 83.1 km/h. On the wet circle, the Michelin maintained a speed of 8.46 m/s, marginally outperforming the Falken’s 8.3 m/s.

Both tires achieved a maximum slipping speed of 80.6 km/h in straight aquaplaning tests. However, in curved aquaplaning, the Michelin achieved a max lateral acceleration of 3.63 m/s², edging out the Falken’s 3.47 m/s². Overall, while both tires exhibit strong wet performance, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S holds a slight advantage in handling and stability.

Azenis FK520 :

Dry

In dry braking tests from 100 to 0 km/h, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S stopped in 33.9 meters, outperforming the Falken Azenis FK520, which took 35.2 meters. For dry handling, both tires performed equally, with an average speed of 100.6 km/h. Overall, while both tires excel in dry handling, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S has a clear edge in dry braking performance.

Exterior Noise

In terms of exterior noise, the Falken Azenis FK520 registers at 71.3 dB, making it slightly quieter than the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S, which measures at 72.1 dB. While both tires are relatively quiet, the Falken Azenis FK520 offers a marginally better performance in reducing road noise.
