Results below were taken from Auto Zeitung’s 2024 Winter Tire Test. A total of 10 tires were tested this time around with a mixture of middle European winter tires & all season tires. The graph below shows the comparison between Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 vs Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 based on the relevant performance category. The Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 was set as a reference hence at the 100% mark.

The handling criteria’s are evaluated by lap times rather than the average lap time speed or subjective evaluation. Wet

The wet braking performance between the Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 and the Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 is surprisingly close, with both stopping from 100 to 0 km/h in nearly identical distances—49 meters for the LM005 and 48.9 meters for the Turanza. However, the LM005, being a wet-focused middle European winter tire, has the edge in wet handling, completing the course in 86.5 seconds compared to the Turanza’s 88.3 seconds. In aquaplaning resistance, the Turanza All Season 6 shows better performance, with a higher threshold speed of 79.3 km/h versus 77.1 km/h for the LM005.

Snow

In snow braking, both the Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 and the Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 stopped from 50 to 0 km/h in exactly 21.9 meters, which is quite surprising for an all-season tire matching a dedicated winter tire. However, in snow handling, the LM005 completed the course faster at 66.5 seconds compared to 68.2 seconds for the Turanza. When it comes to snow traction, the LM005 pulled with 3186 Newtons, slightly outperforming the Turanza’s 3119 Newtons. The impressive snow braking performance of the all-season tire shows advancements in all-season tire technology, but snow handling still favors the winter-focused Blizzak LM005.

Dry

In dry braking, the Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 stopped significantly shorter than the Blizzak LM005, with a distance of 38.3 meters compared to 44.8 meters—a huge difference that highlights the all-season tire’s strength in dry conditions. In dry handling, the Turanza also had an advantage, completing the course in 72.5 seconds, slightly faster than the LM005’s 73.8 seconds. The all-season tire truly shines in dry performance, especially with such a substantial difference in braking distance.

Noise

In terms of exterior noise, the Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 is quieter, producing 72.2 decibels compared to the Turanza All Season 6, which registers at 73.8 decibels. This difference of 1.6 decibels shows the winter tire offers a slightly quieter ride, particularly at 80 km/h.

Turanza All Season 6:

Rolling Resistance

In rolling resistance, the Blizzak LM005 performs better, with a lower value of 7.6 N/kN compared to the Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6’s 8.45 N/kN. As a tire expert, I find both the Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 and the Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 have clear advantages that cater to different needs. The Blizzak LM005 excels in dedicated winter conditions with better snow/wet handling, rolling resistance, and noise, which makes it a fantastic choice for drivers frequently facing wet & snowy winter environments.

On the other hand, the Turanza All Season 6 shines in dry conditions, with significantly better dry performances in both braking & handling. What truly stands out is the impressive advancement of the all-season tire—matching the winter-focused Blizzak LM005 in both wet and snow braking performance. This shows how far all-season tires have come, closing the gap in critical winter capabilities.
