Cross Climate showed that it is possible to be marginally worse in summer performances while being extremely dominant in winter performances. After the initial success of Cross Climate, every tire manufacturer scrambles to launch their own similar segment products but none are still as well balanced as the latest Cross Climate 2 !

When comparing them head to head, Cross Climate 2 shows great masterclass performance in all categories. It only lost out to Cinturato All Season SF2 in noise, comfort & rolling resistance. It is clear in our opinion that Cross Climate 2 is the winner of this duel with its outstanding dry, wet, & snow performances.

All Weather (North America)

• Michelin Cross Climate 2 vs Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3

All season tires have always been the go to tires for the American market and this segment has been well established across the years. We have written quite extensively about Michelin’s Cross Climate 2 as the gold standard for all season tires with an incredible all round balance portfolio. Pirelli’s Scorpion AS Plus 3 is relatively new as it was launched in 2021 and covers a large range of passenger cars and crossovers. The major difference between the tires is that Cross Climate 2 comes with a 3 peak mountain logo while Scorpion AS Plus 3 only has the M+S logo on it. Cross Climate 2 was launched in 2020 and covers a wide variety of sizes.

When comparing them head to head, both tires showed very similar performances in the wet & dry section. Cross Climate 2 had a big advantage in snow & ice performances while Scorpion AS Plus 3 has a higher expected mileage and a lower price point. The main trade off is between winter against wear performance in this case. If you need a winter performance tire, Cross Climate 2 would be the choice for you but if you live in places which have only mild winter conditions Scorpion AS Plus 3 would be your choice.

UHP Winter (North America)

• Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 vs Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3

Michelin’s Pilot Alpin PA4 was launched in 2011 and Pirelli’s Winter Sottozero 3 made its debut in 2014. You might wonder why we are comparing 2 relatively old tires, however these 2 products are still serving a huge chunk of the 18-21″ winter market hence the reason to evaluate them head to head. Overall, Pilot Alpin PA4 showed clear strengths in snow, ice & wet performances while Winter Sottozero 3 showed good dry & noise performances. Even with its drawback in price, Pilot Alpin PA4 is the clear winner in this duel with extremely good winter performances. Enjoy !

Ice Zero FR was launched in 2015, which makes it one of the oldest tires among the top premium brands for this segment. It is up against Michelin’s X-Ice Snow which was recently launched in 2020 giving it a gap of 5 years between each other. When comparing them head to head , apart from rolling resistance, ice braking & aquaplaning, Ice Zero FR was stronger in every other category.
