High Mileage Ultra High Performance All Season Tires

High Mileage Ultra High Performance All Season Tires

High mileage ultra high performance all season tires: Ultra High Performance (UHP) tires are designed to provide high levels of dry, wet grip & handling. This is a common segment worldwide with Pilot Sport 5 & Continental Sport Contact 7 being the few big name products in the market. However in America, there is even a further specialization of the UHP segment which caters more towards the “American” weather with an UHP -all season segment. This product line is specific only for the America market with the additional capability of handling light winter conditions. While mileage is not something an owner of a sports vehicle usually prioritizes, the ‘value per mile’ is something all users are sensitive about especially in the current economic situation.

To get a hint on how well your tire performs in mileage, we usually check the UTQG tread wear values which is mandatory for all summer tires sold in America. Besides that, the mileage warranty given by each tire manufacturer could also help you get a feeling where the tire stands. Unfortunately tire manufacturers have an incentive to input the highest possible rating as the input of both values are not governed by a strict certification process.

Hence in this article we will rank the top high mileage ultra high performance all season tires based on real life wear testing figures and also compare them with their listed UTQG treadwear values & mileage warranty given by the respective products. Without further ado, let’s find out who is the king of mileage in the all season category.

Results: High Mileage Ultra High Performance All Season Tires

All mileage results were taken from Consumer Reports tire test. The mileage reported here for each respective tire is a comparative estimate from Consumer Report’s vehicle road test completed on a treadwear course in southwest Texas. It is important to note that your actual mileage may vary based on how, what, and where you drive along with other factors but not limited to weather & road texture. So please do not take the absolute values as a hardcoded number but rather as a relative value for comparison purposes.

The table above shows the mileage values for each all season tire sorted from high to low. The graph above is interactive and the mileage and tire product are displayed when you hover your mouse on top of the respective bar.

Which all season tire has the highest mileage ?

We have a 2 way tie between Yokohama’s ADVAN Sport A/S + & Riken Raptor ZR A/S.

Yokohama ADVAN Sport A/S +

Yokohama ADVAN Sport A/S

Riken Raptor ZR A/S

Riken Raptor ZR A/S

Yokohama ADVAN Sport A/S + & Riken Raptor ZR A/S has the highest mileage among the other UHP all season contenders with a 65,000 miles mileage rating. This is in spite of having a modest reported UTQG treadwear value of 440 & 300 respectively. Even though both tires came with the highest reported mileage, it still lacks the top players when it comes to performance. ADVAN Sport A/S + finished in the mid pack in performance ratings having really good dry braking while mid-tier performances for the rest with an overall score of 67/100.

The same trend also holds for Raptor ZR A/S as it is really bad in wet braking & managed only an overall score of 55/100. In relation to the top performer, Michelin’s Pilot Sport 4 All Season 4 has a score of 73/100 which firmly sits on top of the standings. It also has a mileage of 60,000 miles which signifies a very well balanced package. Michelin once again shows its innovation by providing the best value per mile by maximizing its mileage performance. This is in line with Michelin’s DNA to become the de-facto innovation leader in the tire industry.

  • ADVAN Sport A/S +
    • Launch: 2019
    • Press test wins: 0/0
    • Consumer Report score: 67/100
    • Strength: Extremely good mileage & dry braking. Weak in rolling resistance
  • Raptor ZR A/S
    • Launch: 2015
    • Press test wins: 0/1
    • Consumer Report score: 55/100
    • Strength: Extremely good mileage. Weak in wet braking & comfort.

The bottom 2 tires include Sailun Atrezzo SVA1 & Armstrong Blu-Trac HP with a disappointing 35,000 miles mileage rating. These are the tires you would like to avoid if mileage is your top requirement 🙂

What is the relationship of UTQG treadwear & mileage warranty values in comparison with the actual mileage?

As we mentioned in the start, UTQG treadwear values & mileage warranty can help us get a hint in terms of the tires mileage performance. The graph below outlays the relationship between the 2 visible wear indicators against the real life mileage values.

As the graph would seem complicated at first glance, I would like to guide you step by step what is being shown here. The Y axis on the left shows the real life mileage minus the mileage warranty values given by the manufacturer. For example, ADVAN Sport A/S + had a real life mileage of 65,000 miles & a mileage warranty of only 55,000 miles. Based on the calculation, it has a [real life mileage – mileage warranty] (65,000-55,000 = 10,000 miles). A positive value would mean the product provided a higher value than the mileage warranty while a negative value would mean it did not fulfill its mileage promises.

The Y axis on the right is rather straightforward as it displays the UTQG treadwear values directly. The excellent Pilot Sport All Season 4 exceeded expectations by out performing its mileage warranty by 15,000 miles. On the flip side, Sailun Atrezzo SVA1 over-promised on its mileage warranty by 10,000 miles 🙁

Another interesting aspect from the graph shows that the UTQG values really do not have a great correlation with actual mileage values. For example the amazing ADVAN Sport A/S + had only a UTQG treadwear value of 440 but still managed to outperform the 500++ products of Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 plus & Vredestein HyperTrac All Season. At the lower end of the spectrum, the tires of both Sailun Atrezzo SVA1 & Armstrong Blu-Trac HP had a 340 UTQG treadwear value which truly reflects its real life mileage rating.

Summary

We have shown the best high mileage ultra high performance all season tires in this article with both Yokohama ADVAN Sport A/S + & Riken Raptor ZR A/S being the top performer in terms of mileage with 65,000 miles rating. 6/20 tire products did not fulfill its mileage warranty promise while 12 other tires managed to exceed their mileage promises. We hope this would enable you to make a quick decision on the best high mileage ultra high performance all season tires. Enjoy !
