Bridgestone Dueler LTH vs Michelin Defender LTX M/S

Bridgestone Dueler LTH vs Michelin Defender LTX M/S

Bridgestone Dueler LTH vs Michelin Defender LTX M/S: Bridgestone’s Dueler LTH is a very popular all season tire (launch in 2017) which is exclusively made for Discount Tire (one of the largest retail tire store in America). The Michelin Defender LTX M/S on the other hand has been an house hold Light Truck / SUV – Highway All-Season tire and has been with us since launching in 2015. As both tires are directly competing with each other with a similar size range, we would like to compare them head to head and see who is the best 🙂

UTQG tread wear

Bridgestone Dueler LTH: 720

Michelin Defender LTX M/S : 800

As expected of a highway all season tire, both tires have a very high UTQG wear number. However the Defender LTX M/S is expected to last longer than the Dueler LTH with an 80 points advantage in UTQG tread wear rating.

Michelin Defender LTX M/S : A

Both the tires are ranked equally in wet braking hence apart from doing a wet braking test , we are not able to distinguish the differences.

UTQG temperature

Bridgestone Dueler LTH: B

Michelin Defender LTX M/S : A

The Defender LTX M/S has one level higher UTQG temperature rating compared to Dueler LTH. This means that the Dueler LTH is not able to dissipate heat as well as Defender LTX M/S at a speed of over 110 mph.

Warranty & 3 peak mountain

As it is quite common to guarantee a certain mileage in the American market, both the tires have the same guaranteed mileage at 70,000 miles. An important point to note about both these tires is that they are not legally a winter tire. Hence this means that they do not carry the 3 peak mountain symbol and only has the non testing required M+S symbol.

Bridgestone Dueler LTH: 70,000 miles // M+S rating only

Michelin Defender LTX M/S : 70,000 miles //M+S rating only

265/70 R17 Bridgestone Dueler LTH : $201

265/70 R17 Michelin Defender LTX M/S : $214

With a much better UTQG ratings, it is no surprised that Michelin has price the Defender LTX M/S 6.5% more expensive compared to the Dueler LTH. We chose the tire size of 265/70 R17 as its a common tire size for Chevrolet Silverado 1500 & Dodge Ram 1500. You can check out our latest tire size table for more information.

Summary

Overall, both tires are quite equally matched aagainst each other. The biggest difference lies in mileage whereby the Defender LTX M/S is expected to last 11% longer than Dueler LTH. However the Defender LTX M/S also cost about 6% more. In our opinion, the Defender LTX M/S slightly edges the Dueler LTH in this duel.
