Results below were taken from 2023 Auto Express Best winter tyres test with a total of 9 tires tested including a named all season & summer tire ! The graph below shows the comparison between Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 vs Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 based on the relevant performance category. The Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 was set as a reference hence at the 100% mark.

Since we are talking about winter segment with both tires having the converted 3 peak mountain logo, the objective & subjective snow performance was tested. The tire size of interest is a 225/45 R17 which is a common tire size for Volvo S60 & BMW 3 Series. You can check out our latest tire size table for more information. Wet Performance Face-off :

When comparing the wet performances of the Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 and the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3, both tires exhibit almost identical prowess in key areas. Wet braking and wet handling are on par for both, with each scoring a perfect 100%. Even in the wet circle test, the two are neck and neck, with the Blizzak LM005 just edging out by 1%.

However, the most noticeable divergence surfaces in aquaplaning tests. The UltraGrip Performance 3 outperforms the Blizzak LM005, particularly in curved aquaplaning, where it scores a remarkable 113% compared to the latter’s 100%. In straight aquaplaning too, Goodyear’s offering leads with 104% against Bridgestone’s 100%. In essence, while both tires offer almost equivalent performances in wet braking and handling, the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 has a distinct advantage in aquaplaning scenarios.
