Results:
Results below were taken from YiChe Touring Tire Test with a total of 10 tires tested (2 run flat models were excluded), Note that for both wet & dry handling evaluation, the average lap speed was used instead of the standard lap time & subjective rating. The tire size of interest is 205/55R16 which is a common tire size for Toyota Corolla & Nissan Almera. You can check out our latest tire size table for more information. The testing vehicle is a Volkswagen Golf.
Wet
In order to evaluate the wet performances, we will go through a full range of wet test including wet braking, wet handling, wet circle, aquaplaning & lateral aquaplaning.
Wet Braking Results
In the wet braking test, each tire brand’s stopping distance from 80 km/h to 0 on a wet surface was measured. The Continental UltraContact UC7 performed the best with a stopping distance of 43.4 meters. Michelin Primacy 4 followed closely with 45.14 meters. Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred and Sentury Qirin 990 also showed strong results with stopping distances of 48.41 meters and 49.47 meters, respectively. Other brands like Chao Yang One, Dunlop SP Sport LM705, Pirelli Cinturato P7, and Bridgestone Turanza ER300 had longer stopping distances, indicating less effectiveness in wet conditions.
Wet Handling Results
In the wet handling test, the average speed each tire brand maintained on a wet track was recorded. The Continental UltraContact UC7 led the pack with an average speed of 78.2 km/h. Michelin Primacy 4 was close behind at 77.8 km/h. Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred also performed well, maintaining an average speed of 76.8 km/h. Other brands, including Sentury Qirin 990, Chao Yang One, Dunlop SP Sport LM705, Pirelli Cinturato P7, and Bridgestone Turanza ER300, showed lower average speeds ranging from 74.6 km/h to 75.5 km/h, reflecting their varying capabilities in wet conditions.
Wet Circle
In the wet circle test, the average lap times on wet asphalt were recorded for each tire brand. The Continental UltraContact UC7 had the quickest lap with a time of 11.51 seconds. Michelin Primacy 4 was also fast, completing the circle in 11.67 seconds. Other brands like Sentury Qirin 990, Chao Yang One, Dunlop SP Sport LM705, Pirelli Cinturato P7, Bridgestone Turanza ER300, and Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred had slightly longer times, ranging from 11.97 to 12.15 seconds, showing a range of performance levels under wet conditions.
Aquaplaning Results
In the aquaplaning test, the average slipping speeds were measured for each tire brand to assess their performance under conditions where water causes loss of traction. Pirelli Cinturato P7 led with the highest speed of 79.9 km/h, indicating strong resistance to aquaplaning. Chao Yang One also performed well, achieving a speed of 77.8 km/h. Michelin Primacy 4 and Continental UltraContact UC7 both recorded speeds of 77.3 km/h. Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred maintained a speed of 78.2 km/h. Other brands, including Sentury Qirin 990, Dunlop SP Sport LM705, and Bridgestone Turanza ER300, had lower speeds, with Bridgestone recording the lowest at 73.9 km/h.
Lateral Aquaplaning Results
In the lateral aquaplaning test, which assesses a tire’s ability to maintain grip while sliding sideways on a wet surface, Pirelli Cinturato P7 and Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred led the results with the highest average residual lateral accelerations of 3.48 m/s² and 3.43 m/s², respectively. Continental UltraContact UC7 also showed strong performance with an acceleration of 3.43 m/s². Michelin Primacy 4 and Chao Yang One followed closely with accelerations of 3.19 m/s² and 3.12 m/s², respectively. Sentury Qirin 990 and Dunlop SP Sport LM705 recorded slightly lower accelerations of 2.89 m/s² and 2.85 m/s². Bridgestone Turanza ER300 had the lowest at 2.74 m/s².
Dry
Similar to the wet conditions, we will evaluate the dry performance based on the two most important tests: dry braking and dry handling.
Dry Braking Results
In the dry braking test, the stopping distances were measured for each tire brand when braking from 100 kilometers per hour to a complete stop. Sentury Qirin 990 had the shortest stopping distance at 36.45 meters, showing superior performance in dry conditions. Michelin Primacy 4 and Continental UltraContact UC7 also had strong results with stopping distances of 37.19 meters and 37.3 meters, respectively. Chao Yang One followed closely with a distance of 37.47 meters. Other brands, including Dunlop SP Sport LM705, Pirelli Cinturato P7, and Bridgestone Turanza ER300, recorded stopping distances ranging from 39.04 to 39.42 meters. Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred had the longest stopping distance at 40.81 meters.
Dry Handling Results
In the dry handling test, average speeds were recorded for each tire brand to assess their performance on dry asphalt. The Continental UltraContact UC7 led the field with an average speed of 117.94 km/h, indicating excellent handling capabilities. Michelin Primacy 4 followed with a speed of 116.43 km/h. Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred and Pirelli Cinturato P7 also demonstrated good performance with speeds of 115.92 km/h and 115.66 km/h, respectively. Sentury Qirin 990 and Chao Yang One both maintained an average speed of 115.02 km/h. Meanwhile, Dunlop SP Sport LM705 and Bridgestone Turanza ER300 had slightly lower speeds, with 114.41 km/h and 114.13 km/h respectively.
Interior Noise
In the test for interior noise measured at 100 km/h on smooth asphalt, the results were remarkably close across all tire brands. Chao Yang One recorded the lowest noise level at 67.05 decibels. Sentury Qirin 990 was also very quiet, with a noise level of 67.08 decibels. The other brands, including Michelin Primacy 4, Dunlop SP Sport LM705, Pirelli Cinturato P7, Bridgestone Turanza ER300, and Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred, had noise levels ranging from 67.17 to 67.35 decibels. The Continental UltraContact UC7, while slightly noisier, still posted a competitive noise level of 67.5 decibels. This tight grouping indicates very little variation in noise production among these tires under the same conditions.
Rolling Resistance
In the rolling resistance test, which affects fuel efficiency and tire wear, Pirelli Cinturato P7 showed the lowest resistance with a rating of 6.95 N/kN, suggesting excellent efficiency. Sentury Qirin 990 also performed well, with a resistance of 7.15 N/kN. Other brands such as Bridgestone Turanza ER300 and Michelin Primacy 4 recorded slightly higher resistances at 7.54 N/kN and 7.78 N/kN respectively. Chao Yang One and Dunlop SP Sport LM705 both had identical values at 8.02 N/kN. Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred and Continental UltraContact UC7 showed higher resistance, recording 8.87 N/kN and 9.11 N/kN respectively, indicating lower efficiency compared to others in this test.
