Wet
The Michelin Primacy 5 is clearly stronger in the wet. It stops in 27.63 m, which is 3.70 m shorter than the CrossClimate 3 at 31.33 m, giving it a 12% advantage. In wet handling, the Primacy 5 is also 4.69 seconds faster, completing the lap in 95.00 seconds versus 99.69 seconds, a 5% advantage.
Straight aquaplaning is much closer, with the Primacy 5 reaching 78.18 km/h, just 0.76 km/h faster than the CrossClimate 3 at 77.42 km/h, a difference of only 1%. Overall, the Primacy 5 has a clear edge in wet braking and handling, while aquaplaning performance is nearly identical.

Dry
The Michelin Primacy 5 also leads in the dry. It stops in 35.31 m, which is 2.84 m shorter than the CrossClimate 3 at 38.15 m, giving it a 7% advantage. In dry handling, the Primacy 5 completes the lap in 76.72 seconds, just 0.96 seconds faster than the CrossClimate 3 at 77.68 seconds, a difference of only 1%.
Overall, the Primacy 5 has the clearer advantage in dry braking, while dry handling is very closely matched.

Rolling Resistance
The Michelin Primacy 5 also has the advantage in rolling resistance, recording 7.14 N/kN compared with 8.09 N/kN for the CrossClimate 3. That is a difference of 0.95 N/kN, giving the Primacy 5 a 12% advantage in rolling resistance and potentially better overall efficiency.

Snow
The Michelin CrossClimate 3 completely turns the tables in snow. It stops in 16.50 m, a huge 14.04 m shorter than the Primacy 5 at 30.54 m, giving it an 85% advantage. In snow traction, it accelerates in 5.08 seconds, 5.76 seconds quicker than the Primacy 5, an enormous 113% advantage. The CrossClimate 3 is also 29.46 seconds faster around the snow handling course, with a 27% advantage. This is where its 3PMSF capability really shows, with the CrossClimate 3 operating on a completely different level in winter conditions.

For the same 225/40 R18 size, the Michelin Primacy 5 costs €118, while the CrossClimate 3 costs €133. That makes the CrossClimate 3 €15 more expensive, or about 11% more, with the extra cost reflecting its added all-season and 3PMSF winter capability.

Summary
From my perspective, the Primacy 5 is the better choice for drivers who mainly face warm and wet conditions, with stronger wet and dry performance, lower rolling resistance and a lower price. The CrossClimate 3 trades some of that summer sharpness and efficiency for vastly better snow performance and true year-round 3PMSF capability. In short, the Primacy 5 is the more focused summer tire, while the CrossClimate 3 is the more versatile option if winter performance matters.
